Curriculum

Arts in Motion is a fun and cheerful environment with a fine arts-based, age appropriate philosophy that supports both excellence and a balanced approach to dance as an extracurricular activity.

Professional teachers who are also professional dancers provide potent instruction, adult leadership, and a foundation for all movement. The AiM approach is to incorporate a sense of joyfulness into every class, while helping children to learn from a clear, concise, and organized curriculum.  We believe that ballet and modern dance principles provide a valuable foundation for all movement and, when combined together, offer the greatest opportunity for expression, creativity, and development.  At Arts in Motion, even small children receive training in modern dance, although they may not realize it!  This results in joyful, intelligent, exceptional dancers that have an awesome love of movement which lasts a lifetime!

Classes for ages 2.5-7 utilize the Magnificent Moving Kidz™ program, originally developed for Arts in Motion by a licensed certified teacher.  This amazing program uses principles of education and dance, combined with children's natural development patterns, to create an unforgettable and exciting movement class for children.  We are the only studio in the St. Louis area to be licensed this program and train our instructors in the Magnificent Movement™ method.  Get more information about this program at movingkidz.com.

Strong programs for ages 6 and up utilize the solid foundation established in the preschool and school-aged classes and challenge the students with more complex skills, concepts, and combinations, expanding their creativity, individuality, body awareness, stamina, and strength.  Emphasis remains on ballet and modern dance forms, although jazz, tap, pointe, and other forms are available.

AiM also features the AiMDance Ensemble program for dancers ages 6 and up who want to make dance a priority and perform. This special group of talented and committed dancers work together through the school year and perform throughout St. Louis.
